Hi Meredith,

I reckon if it's a reputable body jewelry store - they sure have to have an autoclave and the option to sterilise any piece of body jewelry that can be sterilised.

The best first time piercing materials are:
1) stainless steel;
2) titanium;
3) bioplast - this material is especially good - facilitates healing and reduces the likelihood of infection.

Although - as others have pointed out - the piercers might be reluctant to use your own body piercing because they would be not sure if that piece of body jewelry is of a high quality.

You might check out a body jewelry store I've put in the source below - that's the first link. This body jewelry store sells body jewelry made in the States, too and ships the piercings sterilised in a packet - in this case you'd have a hard proof for a piercer that the piercing's been sterilised and ready to insert.

As the second link you'll find a bit more information about bioplast - it's a page of my website about belly button piercings. However, the material features don't change depending on where the piercing is used.

All the best,
Rob

most piercers only use the jewelry they sell. 2 reasons.
they know it's good quality and and not some junk.
they get to sell it to you. that's almost the cost of the peircing.
you pay 35 to get stuck and another 30 for the ring. double the money. let it heal with the jewelry they sell and then change it up. infected peircings ****.

I assume you arent talking about earrings, right? It will depend on the shop. There usually shouldnt be a problem, but you should probably call first to make sure. If its your tongue, certain sizes of studs are needed when they first pierce. You cant use too big a gauge. Call the shop to double check before you buy anything.

you can bring it. you'll even save money on the piercing, since the price they charge you includes the jewelry they use.

When it comes to ear piercings, unless you ask them not to use a gun, you must choose from the jewelry they supply because the initial piercing isn't with a regular stud or anything but it has a special sharp point on it.
