It started a long time ago, but it&#039;s not such a long shot for your jewelry to be genuine even if it doesn&#039;t have a stamp.  In some cases, jewelry was originally stamped, but if a jeweler worked on it (like re-sized a ring), the stamp may have been lost in the process. 

The easiest way that you MIGHT be able to tell if the diamond is genuine is if you have a loop.  When you look at it, if you see small black dots in it, that will indicate that it has carbon deposits, which means it&#039;s genuine.  If it&#039;s a very high-quality stone, then you won&#039;t see any deposits, though, so your best bet is to take it to a jeweler.  They have diamond testers that will tell you right away if it&#039;s genuine, and they probably won&#039;t charge you for that.  If you want an appraisal, it&#039;ll set you back $75 to $100.</description>
