Bought some items in an storage auction found a pair of old earrings in the box. The stones look like Diamonds but the gold is not stamped. So I was wondering when they started to stamp gold? Is there something I can do at home to find out if I got diamonds in the earring’s?
It started a long time ago, but it’s not such a long shot for your jewelry to be genuine even if it doesn’t have a stamp. In some cases, jewelry was originally stamped, but if a jeweler worked on it (like re-sized a ring), the stamp may have been lost in the process.
The easiest way that you MIGHT be able to tell if the diamond is genuine is if you have a loop. When you look at it, if you see small black dots in it, that will indicate that it has carbon deposits, which means it’s genuine. If it’s a very high-quality stone, then you won’t see any deposits, though, so your best bet is to take it to a jeweler. They have diamond testers that will tell you right away if it’s genuine, and they probably won’t charge you for that. If you want an appraisal, it’ll set you back $75 to $100.
take them to your nearest jewler they should be able to help you free of charge
